GOVERNOR MALLOY’S BIG PLAN FOR HIGHER EDUCATION REFORM BROUGHT DOWN ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS BY FIVE AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS. THEY WERE GOING TO USE THAT MONEY TO HIRE NEW PROFESSORS, BUT NOW MALLOY’S BUDGET CUTS TAKE BACK SEVEN MILLION FROM THE STATE UNIVERSITIES, THAT’S THE REASON FOR THE HIRING FREEZE. MALLOY IS CUTTING UCONN’S BUDGET BY $10 MILLION. THE COURANT SAYS UCONN’S TRUSTEES HAVE NO PLANS TO STOP HIRING. 3
